An Italian citizen didn’t manage to use the service of fast customs control – a "green corridor" at the checkpoint "Tisa", to freely and illegally smuggle a psychotropic substance – methamphetamine, into the territory of Ukraine.
Entering the zone of customs control, driving an expensive foreign car «Porsche Cayenne», a 40-year-old Italian happily announced to the customs officers that he was going to Ukraine to get married and wasn’t carrying anything illegal. However, the inspectors decided to conduct a thorough inspection of the SUV, having started with the luggage compartment. The foreigner’s face changed instantly and he quickly threw a pack of cigarettes «Marlboro» under the bottom of the car onto the asphalt. Inspectors were very surprised when they found a transparent plastic bag with powdered white substance inside the packs of tobacco products. After sending a suspicious "finding" for the expertise, it became clear that the Italian, bypassing customs, tried to transfer through the Ukrainian-Hungarian border the psychotropic substance (weighing nearly 0.3 g), containing methamphetamine.
According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 06.05.2000, № 770 "List of Narcotic Drugs of Psychotropic Substances and Precursors", methamphetamine is considered a psychotropic substance with a limited turnover.
Thus, the Italian citizen has committed an offense under Part 1 of the Criminal Code Art.305 of Ukraine. Chop Customs issued a ruling for a criminal case. Now, the foreigner will give explanations to law enforcement agencies – said Victoria Sengetovskaya, a spokesman for Chop Customs.
