Transcarpathian children are examined by specialists of Amosov Institute (VIDEO)

During three days specialists of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after Amosov will be examining children in Transcarpathia. The first day they worked in Uzhgorod in the regional cardiology clinic, and the next two days they will be in Mukachevo and Khust. Such field consultations are held at least once a year. This allows parents and children to consult with highly professional specialists for further treatment strategy or the need for surgical intervention without going to the capital.

According to the children’s cardiorheumatologist of Uzhgorod Yelyzaveta Fatula about 1% of all newborns have heart development problems. Mortality due to such pathologies in the first year of life in infants ranges from 40 to 60%. And therefore it is extremely important to diagnose and treat a small heart in time.

"Generally, there are more than 200 varieties of congenital heart disease. Modern medical technology have reached such a level that complex diseases can be detected still in the womb" – noted the consultant cardiologist of the Amosov Institute Valentyna Harmash. The physician with over 40 years of experience told that nowadays they perform surgeries on infants in the first days of their lives.

Also Valentyna Harmash noted high level of early diagnosis and effective field consultations provided by the children’s specialists of the region in remote mountainous areas of Transcarpathia. This allows to detect certain defects and violations of children’s health in time and significantly increases the effectiveness of surgical treatment.

In total, during the first day Kyiv physicians examined and adviced about 100 patients.
