This year, 34 million passengers have used transport services in Transcarpathia. This number is 10 percent less than that in previous year. 176 carriers provide transportation services in Transcarpathians. Every day, more than 730 buses run on the routes in the region.
These figures were announced during the meeting of the Board of the Department of Housing, Construction and Infrastructure of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration. According to the director of the department Eduard Malyar, the Regional State Administration announced and held this year four tenders for passenger transportation, and terminated 10 contracts with carriers during the year for non-performance of obligations.
The debt to carriers, according to acts of the works performed, is UAH 4.3 million for road transport, UAH 415 thousand – for railway transport.
Following the meeting of the Board, it was decided to give instructions to improve the quality of transport services in the region. In particular, the Road Service, in cooperation with local authorities and representatives of the regional police, was instructed to properly equip bus stops in the settlements of the region. The organizers of transportation and relevant regional structures – to create conditions for free access of persons with disabilities to vehicles. The carriers were suggested to consider the possibility to provide bus drivers with uniforms.
