Illegal transportation of tobacco products across the border was prevented last night by servicemen of the Border Guard Inspectors Department "Rakosh" together with officers of the Mukachevo Detachment’s operative search department.
While checking operative information on possible illegal activities, border guards noticed near the border a group of people with packages on their shoulders.
The servicemen immediately tried to detain the unknown men, but the smugglers took advantage of the considerable distance from the border patrol, left their cargo and fled.
The offenders planned to deliver 12 packages with 6,000 packs of excise-free cigarettes to neighboring Romania.
Measures are currently being taken to identify those involved in illegal trafficking at the border. The found cigaretted were delivered to the border unit and will be handed over to the SFS officers later.
