Romanian border guards detained two Dutch citizens who intended to illegally carry to the country more than 84 kg of cake heroin.
The detention of drug traffickers took place at the checkpoint "Solotvyno-Sighetu Marmatiei" on March 4 at about 10.30. A 29-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were traveling by a car Renault Sport GT registered in Germany.
Having considered possible risks, the Romanian border guards carried out a thorough inspection of the vehicle and baggage. Thus, in the floor of the car, they found a specially designed space with hidden 167 packages containing brown-yellow substance.
The found substance weighing 84.3 kg was sent for analysis to the specialized laboratory, and the examination found out that the substance was heroin.
The prosecutor immediately issued an order for the detention of the persons suspected of moving a large batch of heavy drugs across the border from the territory of Ukraine.
Later, the assistant to the head of the State Border Guard Service, Oleg Slobodyan, commented on this incident.
– Indeed, this incident happened, we are now studying all the circumstances related to this situation. In general, we find a lot of drugs, and the reason why we didn’t this time was probably the fact that the car was not suspicious according to risk analysis. Therefore, there was no reason to think that there were some hidden things in the car, especially, in design features, and secondly, we do not have scanners that allow to see the inner spaces of a car without disassembling it. Our colleagues in Romania have such scanners, – Oleg Slobodyan said.
