Transcarpathian and Slovakian border guards prevented an attempt to cross the border

The joint patrols practiced at the Ukrainian-Slovak border yielded results: through joint measures and coordinated efforts, Ukrainian and Slovak border guards managed to detain offenders who were trying to illegally cross the border.

Border guards of the Chop detachment received from the Slovak colleagues the information about two unknown people going from Slovakia to Ukraine.  Border patrols on both sides of the border immediately arrived at the site of possible violation and to arrest the unknown persons.  A sniffer dog found the tracks and showed the direction. Having noticed the chase, the offenders tried to run away on the mountain slopes. The men would not respond to the request to stop, so border guards had to make warning shots from a traumatic gun in the air, but the offenders would not react to that too. Eventually, border guards managed to catch them. During the arrest, the offenders resisted. The fugitives were residents of villages in Velyky Berezny district of Transcarpathian region. They had no documents, because during their flight they had thrown them away in the forest.

Border guards drew up against the violators a report under Art. 204-1 (illegal crossing or attempt of illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine) and Art. 185-10 (Persistent disobedience) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences. Their further fate will be decided by court, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine informs.
