For more than a month now, the leading actor of the Transcarpathian Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater Oleksandr Mavrits has been taking part in the shooting of the historical drama "Red." The film tells the story of a Ukrainian insurgent in a Soviet camp. The film’s director is Zaza Budaze, the screenwriter is famous Ukrainian writer Andriy Kokotyukha (the film is based on his novel).

The Uzhgorod actor plays the role of the camp chief Major Abramov, against whom the prisoners raise revolt. Interestingly, in Kryvyi Rih, they even built a whole concentration camp to accurately reproduce the Stalinist era.

The film is being made by the company "Insightmedia" which in 2013 made the film "Ivan Strong" about the famous Transcarpathian athlete Ivan Firtsak. Half of the budget of the film "Red" is covered by the State Cinema.

Oleksandr Mavrits loves playing in the film very much. He says that he has learned many things from his new colleagues. Although, he also has to pay a high price – his wife Svitlana Mavrits, also an actress of the Transcarpathian Drama Theater, with a young son is waiting at home.

The wide release of the film "Red" is planned for early 2017.
