Transcarpathian region prosecutor’s office approved the indictment and sent to court the criminal proceeding on charges against a local resident of illegal transportation of two paintings by Bokshay and one painting by Erdelyi across the customs border of Ukraine concealed from customs control, by a prior conspiracy (Part 2 of Art.201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the conclusions of the Lviv branch of the National Research and Restoration Center of Ukraine, the paintings by Bokshay "Zhornava", "Portrait of the son" and a painting by Erdelyi "Portrait of a young man" are original authors’ works with an estimated market value of the painting "Zhornava" equal to 750,000 UAH to 1,000,000 UAH, the painting "Portrait of the son" – 300,000 UAH to 350,000 UAH, and the painting "Portrait of a young man" – 600,000 to 700,000 UAH
Smugglers attempted to carry these paintings, which are of a historical, cultural and museum value and not subject to export from Ukraine, under the vehicle floor and additionally camouflaged them with boxes of ceramic tiles.
The offender faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to twelve years with confiscation of contraband and confiscation of property.
