During the first plenary meeting of the fifth session, the regional deputies approved the program of cooperation between Transcarpathian region and the district of Upper Franconia (Germany) for the period of 2016-2018.
The program of cooperation was signed on August 3, 2016 in the city of Goldkronach by the Regional Council chairman Mykhailo Rivis and the chairman of the general assembly of Upper Franconia Gunter Dencler based an the Agreement on inter-regional partnership between the Transcarpathian Regional Council and the district assembly of Upper Franconia (Germany), concluded in 2001.
The program provides for specific measures and areas to be implemented during this period in order to address issues of common interest. In particular, it is the intensification of investment cooperation, establishment of business contacts and cooperation between business structures; promotion of efficient use of existing tourist and recreational potential of the two regions; holding a number of cultural events and more.
The program also provides for a series of joint activities in the areas of education, culture, sports, tourism, health care, etc., which will also contribute to meeting the national and cultural needs of the German minority in Transcarpathia. Since the signing of the program, the German party has already provided humanitarian assistance to Uzhgorod city hospital by supplying medical equipment.
The Program will promote active participation of the parties in programs aimed at the development of Ukrainian-German cross-border cooperation, attraction of financial resources of the European Union.
