Today ambassadors of the Visegrad Four – Henrik Litwin – the Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine, John Počuch – the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Ukraine, Mihal Baer – the Ambassador of Hungary to Ukraine, Marek Shafin – the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine, the Chairman of the Regional Council Ivan Baloha on the Ukrainian-Slovak border, near the Maly Berezny-Ublya crossing point attended the ceremony of marking the Transcarpathian tourist highway that connects tourist routs of Transcarpathia and Europe.
There was the presentation and inauguration of the Carpathian tourist route – a 334 km hiking path, which leads from the Ukrainian-Slovak border to the border with Romania through meadows and valleys of Transcarpathia.
This attractive tourist route was marked according to the European system in the framework of the Project for restoration of tourism marking in the Carpathian region, which since 2008 has been supported financially by the Government of the Czech Republic.
Last year, Transcarpathian Regional Council and the Embassy of the Czech Republic signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of marked tourist trails in Transcarpathia. The Czechs helped with the development of hiking trails both technically and through expert support. It provides the promotion and marketing of hiking trails in the appropriate communities. The Embassy of the Czech Republic also undertook to include marked hiking trails of Transcarpathian region into the European network of marked hiking trails.
The Czech Ambassador to Ukraine John Počuch noted that the project, which was launched in Transcarpathia turned out to be extremely successful. "Now Transcarpathia became one step closer to Europe. Tourism potential of your land is extremely large, and marked hiking trails promote the development of the industry" – the diplomat said.
