Transcarpathia does not receive enough money for road repairs

This year, the region will receive from the state budget almost 57 million hryvnias for the repair of public roads, including 41 million – for national roads, and 16 – for local roads. Meanwhile, in 2013, Transcarpathia paid to the state budget almost 500 million hryvnias of excise tax on gasoline. The region ranks fifth in Ukraine in terms of gasoline sales and seventh in terms of diesel fuel sales.

Only in two months of this year, the road builders have spent 7 million hryvnias. They patched holes over the area of ​​14.2 thousand square meters. In addition, the Treasury owes Transcarpathian road builders nearly 8.5 million hryvnias for last year’s work.

According to the Road Service in Transcarpathian region, every year, the region needs major repairs of at least 150 – 170 km of roads and preventive maintenance of 350 – 380 km of roads. The annual estimated amount of money needed to perform repairs is 480 – 520 million hryvnias.
