Transcarpathia asks Kyiv not to turn off analogue TV

The regional authorities appealed to the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio with a proposal to postpone the date of termination of analogue TV broadcast to the end of 2016. Currently, it is planned that Transcarpathia, along with eight other regions, should completely switch to digital in June this year.

To date, only half of Transcarpathia is covered with digital broadcasting. Digital signal transmitters are installed in Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Khust, Svalyava, Rakhiv and Velyky Berezny. Over the past four years, the network has not been extended. Mizhhirya and Volovets districts do not have access to digital television at all. Velyky Berezny, Perechyn, Svalyava, Tyachiv, Rakhiv and Irshava districts – only partially.

Also, the region suggests to establish a provider and operator of digital broadcasting and issue the relevant license to the state enterprise Broadcasting, Radio and Television Group. Currently, digital communication is developed by the private entity "Zeonbud" LLC
