Tomorrow, as part of the European Mobility Week, on Sandor Petofi Square, at 19.00, there will be the screening of the documentary "The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces" (dir. William H. Whyte).
In 1969, sociologist William H. Whyte, at the request of the Urban Planning Commission of New York City, began to explore urban space through video. The study lasted 10 years, and the documentary was filmed based on its results. Whyte asked himself the questions. What makes urban space attractive? Who uses them and how? What determines their popularity? What role does the environment (benches, trees, fountains) play? What is the role of urban landscape in people’s lives? How does it create and maintain a busy and active society?
Answers to these questions will be given in the film. We will also try to consider how the basic principles highlighted in the film may be useful to Uzhgorod.
Translation into Ukrainian was made by the organization. Voiced by Oleksandr Kipa, Yevhen Tychyna.
