Tomorrow in Beregovo, there will be talks between representatives of Ukraine and Hungary on the education law

The Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that  Ukraine would insist that  inhabitants of Transcarpathia need to study the Ukrainian language.

During the intergovernmental talks between Ukraine and Hungary, which will take place on June 22 in Beregovo (Transcarpathian region), Kyiv does not intend to give up on the compulsory study of the Ukrainian language by national minorities living in Transcarpathia, the "Yevropeiska pravda" reported with reference to the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.

The minister said that today at the press conference in Kyiv.

 The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that compulsory study of the Ukrainian language would be the "red line" during a high-level intergovernmental meeting between representatives of Ukraine and Hungary on the Ukrainian law on education.

These talks will be held on June 22 in Beregovo and will be the first meeting at such a level since the beginning of the dispute between Kyiv and Budapest on the education law.

Earlier, "Rakurs" reported that Hungary had blocked the NATO-Ukraine Commission at ministerial level, while the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto demanded that Ukraine amend the law on education and postpone its implementation until 2023, otherwise Budapest would block important for Ukraine meetings at the EU and NATO levels.

At the beginning of June, in Kyiv, the Minister of Education Lilia Grinevich met with representatives of the Hungarian community living in Ukraine. The Ministry of Education and the Hungarian community will jointly develop state standards and curriculums.

The Government submitted to the Verkhovna Rada the bill number 8046. It extends the transitional period for the implementation of the language article of the law on education until 2023. Currently, this bill is being reviewed by the parliamentary committees.
