Tomorrow, a memorial plaque dedicated to the outstanding sculptor Vasyl Svyda will be opened in Uzhgorod

On October 24, the solemn opening of the memorial plaque to the outstanding sculptor, laureate of the T. Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine, People’s Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Svyda will take place in Uzhgorod on I. Firtsak street.

The bronze plaque made by the Honored Artist of Ukraine Mykhailo Mykhailuk will decorate the facade of the house number 6, in which Vasyl Svyda lived and worked in 1952-1989, as indicated on the memorial plaque.

The beginning of the solemn opening is at 15.00.
        Reference: Vasyl Svyda was born on October 22, 1913 in the village of Patskanyovo in Uzhgorod district.
        In 1934, he graduated from the school of artistic wood processing in Yasinya in Rakhiv district. Later, he worked at the Church Art Workshop in Brno (Czech Republic).
        Since 1945, he was living and working in Transcarpathia. Among other things, he was teaching at Uzhgorod College of Applied Arts.
        In 1946 he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, and headed its regional organization from 1951 to 1961.
        1957 – Honored Artist of Ukraine.
        1973 – People’s Artist of Ukraine.
        1989 – winner of the T. Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine. 
        Vasyl Svyda was a deputy of the Uzhgorod City Council and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

He died in 1989 in Uzhgorod.
