Close cooperation of Ukrainian border guards with their colleagues from the EU countries enhances the effectiveness of combating criminal activities and the ongoing exchange of information allows to respond quickly to the situation and take timely preventive measures.
Thus, on the border with Hungary, border guards of the department "Velyka Palad" of the Mukachevo detachment and Hungarian police officers, as a result of information exchange, prevented attempted smuggling of 30 boxes of cigarettes.
During the arrest on the Ukrainian side, border guards made several warning shots in the air, but the offenders ran away, leaving 28 packages with 13,700 packs of cigarettes of various brands.
Hungarian colleagues were notified about the arrest and they found on their side two more packages of cigarettes and arrested one offender, who probably was involved in illegal activities. Currently, joint measures to establish all the circumstances of the offense and identify the persons involved in this are being taken.
Another attempt of tobacco smuggling on the Ukrainian-Romanian border was prevented by border guards of the department "Dilove": 12 packages of tobacco products were found near the Tisa River, which forms the border. Also, border guards detained a Ukrainian in a diving suit. The report on administrative violation was drawn up against the detainee.
Since the beginning of 2017, border guards have detained seven people who used wetsuits trying to move cigarettes across the border.
