“Together for life!” – the remebrance campaign in Uzhgorod (PHOTOS)

The world marks the third Sunday of May as the day of remembrance of people who died from HIV / AIDS. In Uzhgorod, on May 18, there was also an event on the Day of remembrance of people who died from HIV / AIDS.

The initiator of the campaign in Uzhgorod Valentyne Sokyrko said that with this event thay expressed sadness for the dead and demonstrated the magnitude of the tragedy that is happening in Ukraine: "We want to draw attention to the reasons why we are losing so many Ukrainians. The main ones are usually the lack of essential treatment programs, drugs, preventive measures and lack of attention to HIV / AIDS on the part of the authorities at the national and regional levels. In Transcarpathia, the number of HIV-positive people is small, but they exist. And our task is to provide maximum support for these people."

The international movement "Names" was founded in 1987 in the U.S. when the activist Cleve Jones sewed a quilt in memory of his friend who had died of AIDS. His grief was so great that every day he would cover himself with this quilt that reminded him of the loved one. Now, this initiative has spread around the world. The International AIDS Memorial "Quilt" has become the main symbol of the movement "Names", it includes 5683 sections featuring the names of 82,000 people who have died from the disease.
