9th of December is the International Anti-Corruption Day. This day is celebrated every year on the initiative of the UN in connection with the signing of the Convention against Corruption.
According to international documents, corruption is the abuse of state power to produce profits, and numerous forms of misappropriation of public funds for private use. Corruption also includes nepotism.
The Convention, adopted by the United Nations, obliges its member states to conduct anti-corruption policies, impose punishment, and also provides for mechanisms of international cooperation to fight against this phenomenon.
In the Transparency International report on the state of corruption in 176 countries of the world Ukraine in 2011 rose from 152nd place to 144th.
According to the information posted on the website of the organization, this year Ukraine has 26 points out of 100. It should be noted that the rating scores mean the ant-corruption level and thus their low quantity means that a country is more corrupt. Therefore, the organization believes that the outcome of less than 30, is "a disgrace to the nation."
