On Saturday, November 24, on the Day Remembrance of Holodomor Victims, the monument "Candle of Memory" will be opened and consecrated on Nezalezhnist embankment in Uzhgorod.
The monument will replace the cornerstone that was established in the city center in 2016 on the anniversary of the Holodomor. Recall that the composition designed by Kyiv sculptor Igor Hrechanyk won the all-Ukrainian competition.
Leaders of the region, the city of Uzhgorod, the institutions of the region, representatives of diplomatic circles, clergy, servicemen, and city residents will take part in the events. They will leave at the foot of the monument burning lamps and symbolic wheat ears that anyone can bring along or get during the event.
The opening of the monument begins at 15:00.
At 16:00, Transcarpathia will join the national "minute of silence", and symbolic candles in memory of the victims of the genocide of the Ukrainian people will be lit on the balcony of the regional state administration.
Attention, drivers!
During the events, parking on Narodna Square and Nezalezhnist embankment near the building of the medical faculty of UzhNU will be prohibited.
