Immunologists expected the outbreak of measles in Ukraine during autumn-winter period. This disease is characterized by recurrence, so its first wave that swept predominantly through western Ukraine, was reported already today.
This information was provided by the chief pediatric immunologist of Kyiv, assistant professor of infectious diseases of Pediatric Immunology at P.Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Fedir Lapij.
He said that since January this year 12 thousand outbreaks of measles were officially registered in Ukraine, which is significantly more than in the previous year, and these figures are constantly growing.
According to Fedir Lapij there are currently some shortages in vaccine supply related to the fact that many want to be vaccinated against measles in the capital, but this issue will be resolved in the nearest future.
