Thirty children will not be walking three kilometers to school anymore

The problem of remoteness of students from schools in rural areas of Transcarpathian region is eternal. Regional media have written about it many times and, ultimately, it helped.

In the region, villages situated between the mountains are far away from each other, and kids often have to walk three, five or more kilometers to school in a neighboring village. In winter, through snow and drifts. Eventually, the state program "School bus" was launched in the region. The program, of course, had its shortcomings. Buses would run irregulary because either there is no fuel, or no parts, or no financing.

Once again, this system failed in the village of Lintsi in Uzhgorod district. Parents of students decided to help their children, but not really counting on the state which for the past few months has been having troubles on a much larger scale.

Recently, the public organization "Self-help of Transcarpathia" received the appeal from parents of students of Lintsi school in Uzhgorod district. "Since the school bus has once again stopped running, 31 children must walk more than three kilometers from the village of Gajdos to school. The regular bus does not help the situation, since its schedule does not coincide with the beginning of school lessons, and walking the distance takes at least 40 minutes," – they said.

Lawyers of the "Self-help" wrote an appeal to Uzhgorod District State Administration requesting to immediately take all necessary measures for proper transportation of students to school and back home.

As it turned out, the problems in the transportation were caused – no surprises – by bus breakdowns and temporary lack of fuel for its smooth functioning.

"Today, the bus carrying children from the village of Gajdos is technically sound and provided with fuel. Thus, disruptions in the organization of daily transportation have been fully resolved," – the head of the of Uzhgorod DSA Maria Koval-Mazyuta responded to the appeal.

Another small for the organization, but big for the community and most importantly – for children, victory of the "Self-help" members, who continue to expect reasons to effective application of their efforts in improving the lives of Transcarpathians.
