It was announced today, February 26, by the head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in the Transcarpathian region Igor Mykhaylyshyn.
He also said that he could not give a starting date for biometric passports issuance because the Cabinet had not yet approved a resolution which would describe the new document: its appearance, technical specifications and so on.
Because of this, officials are currently unable to give an explanation as to how the biometric data will be collected, ie whether Ukrainians would only have their fingerprints taken or they also would undergo retinal scans and other procedures.
However, according to Igor Mykhaylyshyn, the necessary equipment has already been purchased, and our region after the adoption of the resolution can be one of the first to start issuing passports of the new model. Meanwhile, the Migration Service issues travel and domestic passports of the old model.
