There will be wine! In Transcarpathia, they harvested almost 17,000 tonnes of grapes (PHOTOS)

Vineyard season in Transcarpathia continues. This year is considered good – the summer was though dry, but hot. The grapes ripened well and acquired a lot of sugar which is the key to making vintage wines.

The vintage at the agro firm "Leanka" in Uzhgorod district is almost finished.

The winemaker Vasyl Antalovsky from Bobovyshche in Mukachevo district is in the midst of processing yield and laying wine base in barrels. The main varietal wines are in the process of fermentation.

Today in Transcarpathia, total vineyard area (in farms of all categories) accounts for 3,900 hectares. 3,7 thousand of them are fertile ones, others are new ones. This season, it is planned to harvest more than 23,000 tons of the crop. They have already harvested about 17,000 – according to the Department of Agriculture Development of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration. Last year, they made 1.046 million dal of wine in the region. The statistics of the department reflects only official producers – wineries, including three major companies that produce a major part of the drink. Private growing is a traditional craft in the region, and it is now actively developing, but because of too high license fee, such products are illegal – private winemakers can only present their drinks on festivals, organize tastings. And they say that the 2013 harvest pleases. Season of the grape harvesting and wine base laying continues, Transcarpathians hope that this year will be more productive than the last.
