As of now, there are about twenty streets named in honor of the first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova in settlements of Transcarpathia. In the near future they will all be renamed by the order of the head of the Regional State Administration under the law of discommunization.
– The Soviet tradition to perpetuate living people in toponyms is contrary to Christian ethics – the head of the RSA said. – However, it is not this that is important, but the fact that V.Tereshkova as a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the president’s party "United Russia" and a member of the Supreme Council of "United Russia" in March 2014 voted to include the Crimea to Russia and to permit sending Russian troops to Ukraine, that is supported the annexation of the peninsula.
Shortly before the voting, in February 2014, Tereshkova as a member of the Russian delegation personally came to the Crimea to prepare for capturing of the peninsula by Russia. Such actions completely negate all previous achievements of this person in the eyes of the Ukrainian people. We shall find worthy people, who were patriots of Ukraine, Transcarpathia and merit perpetuation. Current Tereshkova streets will be renamed in their honor. Names of those, who supported the aggression of Russia against Ukraine, do not belong in our place name signs.
