The wives and mothers of killed Transcarpathian heroes demand from the Minister of Defence to give appartments and to restore benefits

Yesterday, Monday, June 29, at the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, the Defense Minister of Ukraine Colonel General Stepan Poltorak met with the mothers and wives of the soldiers who were killed in the East during the ATO. He conducted this meeting in response to the initiative of the families and at the request of the head of the region Vasyl Hubal.

The meeting was devoted to addressing social and domestic issues of the families. The most pressing issue is housing problems. Members of the soldiers’ families put this issue squarely before the government official. Stepan Poltorak replied to the families: "Within a month or two, we will buy new homes for you. I take the matter under my control." This applies to the families of those victims who were regular soldiers. The Defense Ministry will purchase apartments that will meet the needs of each family according to their wishes. "As for conscripts, the matter is more complicated – the official admitted. – But I will try to speed up the allocation of funds from the Ministry of Social Policy. Next week, I will raise this issue at the Cabinet meeting," – Stepan Poltorak said.

Then, wives of soldiers drew attention to the adopted changes to the legislation, under which benefits for families of killed combatants shall be cancelled on July 1.     Stepan Poltorak replied that he would address this issue. "In the near future, the Ministry of Defense will develop amendments to the legislation and appeal to the Government with an initiative to restore benefits for members of families of killed soldiers – the Minister said.

  

In general, at the meeting with families, they discussed other issues of social protection. Also, relatives of killed sodiers asked the Minister to facilitate rapid granting of the status of combatants and nomination of soldiers for state awards.
