The “UZ” suffers billions of losses

Every year, the "Ukrainian Railways" suffer losses from passenger transportation in the amount of $ 1 billion.

This was announced by the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Communications, Boris Kolesnikov, the "Interfax-Ukraine" reported.

He said the night passenger transportation in coach-sleeping train cars has a negative impact on the economy of Ukraine. He added that "Intercity +" trains are the most profitable.

"Without cars with 80 seats there will be no passenger traffic. There will be couch-sleeping cars worth enormous amount of money, everything else – reserved seat, coupe – is a scrap metal assembled in the 60-80s," – he said.

According to Kolesnikov, out of 6,500 cars currently in service, 90% have exceeded their lifetime.
