The unique “One artist gallery” will appear next year in Uzhgorod

In recent years, unfortunately, it has not been often that we hear about the opening of interesting and unusual cultural objects that would serve as attraction for tourists and maintain the reputation of Transcarpathia as artistic region. But life goes on. And through the efforts of creative people, philanthropists and NGOs, the situation is gradually changing for the better, the press center of the Transcarpathian Art Development Foundation informs.

Thus, last Friday, one of such extraordinary objects was presented during the nationwide painting contest "Silver Easel", which brought together 45 students from 22 educational institutions of Ukraine. It is the "One artist gallery," which is scheduled to open next year in Uzhgorod. The initiator of its creation is Robert Brovdi, the founder and chairman of Transcarpathian Art Development Foundation, who personally announced and presented future project on October 21 during a press conference in the lobby of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and the reception for cultural circles of the region in the hotel "Old Continent".

"The format and the concept of the future gallery can be decribed in a concise formula: one artist, one exhibition, one week" – he explains. "Gallery provides free exposition space, as well as necessary organizational, media and other support to one particular artist for the exhibition of his or her works. However, there is one condition: during the allotted seven days, the artist has to personally represent the exhibition in the gallery, to communicate with the audience and the media. The artists to be exhibited and the sequence of displays will be determined by an independent expert board consisting of authoritative public and artistic figures of the region", – Robert Brovdi said.

According to the head of Transcarpathian Art Development Foundation, "we aim to create the most open and accessible platform for all Transcarpathian artists. Although, of course, young artists and talented beginners, who need the most support, will have a priority."

The location for the "One artist gallery" was chosen near the pedestrian bridge that connects the two squares of the historic center of Uzhgorod – Petofi and Teatralna. This is one of the most famous and most visited parts of the city, guaranteeing a broad and regular audience for the exhibited artists.

In general, the successful implementation of the idea will allow to hold up to 50 exclusive exhibitions of Transcarpathian and invited artists annually. And that means the discovery of new names and talents, dozens if not hundreds of new works of art that will develop the glorious Transcarpathian art school. Now, there are no art galleries with a similar concept in Ukraine or abroad. So Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia have a chance to have a unique facility on its cultural, artistic and tourist map.
