Stunning scenery and priceless exhibits. The Museum of Forest and Rafting is a unique tourist attraction awaiting restoration and it can become a special tourist attraction of Mizhhirya district. Alla Hayatova is sure about that too:
"The Museum of Forest and Rafting on the Chorna Rika in 1998 was destroyed by the flood. Some of the exhibits were saved, but the most valuable unique dam was lost. It allowed local loggers to float the logs down the river. Rafting was an elite profession: they had to have strength and courage, and the hard and risky job was well paid.
Today, the restoration of the only European museum of forest and rafting is included in the government’s plan, the funding is even provided for in the budget. Theoretically, the works should have been done this year. But for the time being, there has been no real money and no real action, although there is a project. The local people are very hopeful, and the administration of the National Park "Synevyr" last year managed to rebuild the premises for exhibits and is fixing up other buildings. Will the promise to restore the museum and the dam be fulfilled? The only other museum of this kind exists in Canada…".
Note: the museum is located on the river between the slopes in a spruce and beech forest at 2.2 km from the road through the village of Synevyr and belongs to the National Nature Park.
