The Ukrainians, who agree to any working conditions at Hungarian plants, are considered by the locals as “strikebreakers”

Ukrainians with biometric passports crowd out local workers at some enterprises, since they agree to substantially lower wages, the Mukachevo.net reports with reference to the Hungarian media. In particular, the Hungarian publication 24.hu gives an example of a factory in the city of Sarvar in western Hungary. Since the last year many old workers were fired there, and a hundred Ukrainian migrant workers were employed instead.

The company decided to find cheaper labor in the east, namely in Ukraine, taking advantage of the fact that the country received a visa-free regime. Since November 2017, Ukrainians began to come to the enterprise. Moreover, most of them did not speak Hungarian, that is, they were not from Transcarpathia. Already at the end of the year, more than 600 workers were fired allegedly because of production curtailment. And in early February their vacancies were filled with Ukrainian workers.

According to the dismissed Hungarians, Ukrainians agree to any working conditions. In particular, Hungarian workers were offered decent bonuses for overtime work (4,500 forints per shift, approximately 450 UAH). However, with the arrival of the Ukrainian workers, all these bonuses were canceled, including bonuses for food. Local Hungarians do not mind the Ukrainians at their enterprises. But they are against foreign "strikebreakers" who agree to any conditions.
