The suspects in the arson of office of the Society of Hungarian Culture of Transcarpathia were arrested in Poland

In Poland, the police detained three Poles suspected of arson in the Society of Hungarian Culture office in Uzhgorod on February 4. This information was confirmed by the spokeswoman for the Polish secret services’ coordinator, Stanislav Sharin, the Gordon reported citing the Onet.pl.

"In this case, the Homeland Security Agency (ABW) is investigating various cases related to the attempt to set fire to the building of the Hungarian Cultural Association in Ukraine. The international contacts of the detainees are also investigated," – Sharin said.

The ABW detained the suspects on February 21 and 22. According to the publication, in early February they tried to set fire to the facade of the building of the Transcarpathian Association of Hungarians – the Hungarian Culture Association. Two of them were arrested for three months, the third one was released on bail.

Recall that on the night of February 4, a smoke was detected in the premises of the Society of Hungarian Culture of Transcarpathia. The fire was extinguished before the arrival of rescuers. The Mayor of Uzhgorod Bohdan Andriyiv said that bottles with a flammable mixture had been thrown at the building, but there was no serious damage. As a result of the incident, nobody was injured.

On the night of February 27, the second fire occurred in the Hungarian cultural center in Uzhgorod. The fire destroyed furniture and part of the property on the area of ​​25 m². Yosyp Borto, the deputy head of the Hungarian cultural center in Uzhgorod, said that the fire had been caused by an explosion of a home-made device.

In connection with the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary summoned the Ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary, Liubov Nepop.
