The situation is getting worse: in Uzhgorod, the regional hospital is already 70% filled with patients with COVID-19

Mykhailo Polyak, the chief physician of the Uzhgorod Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, spoke about the situation with bed occupancy today during a briefing in Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.

As of today, hospitals in the city of Uzhgorod, which receive COVID patients, are 70% full. We have 254 patients being treated, there is not enough space. ICUs are fully occupied. And we constantly rotate patients, those who are better are transferred from ICUs to general wards. The situation is quite worrying. And in recent days, there has been a fairly high increase in coronavirus cases. Today, in Transcarpathia, there have been 107 new cases. In the districts, hospitals that treat COVID patients are not filled. But in the regional center they are almost full,” – Mykhailo Polyak said.

The doctor also assured that in case the situation worsens, the number of beds can be expanded.
