The Minister of Agrarian Policy Oleksuy Pavlenko believes that the sharp rise in food prices is a speculation, but predicts a gradual increase in prices due to increased production costs.
"As for long-term pricing, it is understood that there will be a gradual increase in prices, but a sharp rise in prices is a speculation" – he told reporters during the IV Ukrainian agrarian forum in Kyiv on Friday.
According to him, Ukraine harvested a record grain harvest since independence, and there are no food shortages.
O. Pavlenko said that the high demand for food is associated with the panic caused by the devaluation of the hryvnia.
He added that the ministry had questions to retailers who inflated food prices during the highest demand.
