Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine caught officials of the Transcarpathian Customs of the State Fiscal Service on large-scale abuse of office.
The special service operatives found out that the customs officials had established a mechanism for obtaining undue advantage from representatives of commercial enterprises engaged in foreign economic activity. In order to exempt exporters from payment of the export duty, the officials carried customs clearance of the goods under another code of the calssification system.
According to preliminary estimates, the illegal activity of the customs officials caused losses in the amount of about five hundred and forty thousand hryvnias. Within a criminal proceeding initiated under Part 2 of Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, urgent investigative and operational measures are being taken to prosecute other persons who may be involved in the illegal activities. The detention was conducted jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations under the procedural control of the Prosecutor’s Office of Transcarpathian region.
