If it turns out that Transcarpathian officials, besides Ukrainian, also have Hungarian citizenship, the Security Service of Ukraine may deprive them of access to state secrets.
The Security Service of Ukraine can not prosecute civil servants and officials with dual citizenship. This was stated by the spokeswoman of the Security Service of Ukraine Olena Hitlyanska, commenting on the information from the site "Myrotvorets" about over 300 civil servants and officials in Transcarpathian region having Hungarian passports. When asked whether the Security Service would take measures regarding the dual citizenship of these officials, she said:
"Do we have a law providing for the responsibility for dual citizenship?"
In response to the specifying the remark that those are not ordinary citizens, but civil servants, the press secretary of the Security Service of Ukraine noted:
"We can, within the limits of our competence, deprive them of access to state secrets, if they have it. That’s it". At the same time, Hitlyanska added that the Security Service of Ukraine would check these officials for access to state secrets.
