On the Botanichna embankment in Uzhgorod, priests of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine blessed the river water on the occasion of the Feast of the Epiphany.
It was a historic event, because this is perhaps the first such public rite outdoors in Uzhgorod performed by the priests of the new, independent Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
On the occasion of the Epiphany, hundreds of people came to their usual place for winter bathing near the "children’s railway" to become witnesses of the blessing ceremony, pray with the priests, and bathe in the Uzh.
The water of the Uzh river was blessed by three bishops: Barsanuphius, Cyril and Victor. Soldiers of the Armed Forces were also present at the event.
