In early May 2018, the Uzhgorod City Council inquired about the opinion of Uzhgorod residents about the species of trees to be planted on Kyivska embankment beside the chestnuts. Following the consultations, the city council will take into consideration the answers when making the decisions regarding the greening of this public space.
Unfortunately, chestnuts are affected by pests. Treating trees is quite expensive, so experts from the Department of Botany of UzhNU did not recommend them for public discussions. Instead, six other pest-resistant trees were proposed.
As of May 29th, the opinions were divided as follows: ash – 4 votees, maple – 38 votes, paullinia – 61 votes, lime – 50 votes, oak – 45 votes and ginkgo biloba – 67 votes.
The survey lasts until June 15th! Do not be indifferent! Vote!
Also, on the official site of the Uzhgorod City Council, there is a section "Public consultations" (http://rada-uzhgorod.gov.ua/publichni-konsultatsiyi/), where you can vote for one of the 6 proposed species of trees.
Uzhgorod residents still have time to express their opinion on the matter until June 15, 2018.
Reference. Public consultations are being implemented within the framework of the project "Set the course for the government", which is being implemented with the support of the National Democratic Institute (NDI). Public consultation is a tool by which government receives from citizens information about their vision of a solution to a particular socially important issue. It is put out for general discussion, every citizen can influence the adoption of a final decision.
