At the end of last week, the media reported that a 12-year-old boy had died from measles in the Mukachevo Children’s Hospital. According to the press center of the Regional Health Center in Transcarpathian region, a treatment was prescribed for him, but the child’s condition kept deteriorating. Due to signs of cardiovascular insufficiency and respiratory disorders, an emergency physician was called and the child was transferred to the intensive care unit. It happened 4 hours after admission to the medical institution.
However, despite all the therapy, the effects of respiratory disorders and cardiovascular insufficiency persisted, and the child’s heart stopped in the afternoon.
In the Regional Children’s Hospital, a commission was formed to assess the quality of medical care, namely: the child’s condition at admission, the prescribed treatment. Separately, the issue of immunization will also be studied, because this infectious disease requires vaccination. That is, whether the parents had the child vaccinated or refused to do it.
According to the regional pediatrician Mykhailo Rad, since the beginning of the year, 3333 cases of measles have been recorded in the region. Nearly 75 percent of the patients have not been vaccinated, while others have received only one vaccine. That is, the immunization was not completed.
The doctor reminded that since the beginning of the year, 15 people have died of measles in Ukraine. Two deaths occurred in Transcarpathia.
