The prosecutor’s office approved an indictment against a group of Mukachevo racketeers

Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office approved and sent to court an indictment against four members of a criminal group involved in extortion. 
It has been found out that a resident Mukachevo and three accomplices demanded from a Transcarpathian USD 15 thousand for non-existent debts. They threatened him with physical violence and murder. The fact of transfer of USD 2.5 thousand was documented by prosecutors together with officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathia on March 19, 2020. One of the detainees, a 40-year-old man from Mukachevo is a suspect in several other proceedings. 
All detainees are currently being held without bail. The suspects are charged with a crime under Part 2 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion committed by a group of persons with the threat of causing grievous bodily harm). The indictment was sent by the prosecutor’s office to the Mukachevo City and District Court for consideration on the merits.
