The prosecutor of Transcarpathian region indicted a deputy of Beregovo district council of treason

У четвер, 28 лютого 2019 року, прокурор Закарпатської області повідомив депутату Берегівської районної ради VII скликання підозру у наданні представникам організацій іноземної країни допомогу в проведенні підривної діяльності проти України, тобто вчиненні державної зради (ч.1 ст.111 КК України).

On Thursday, February 28, 2019, the prosecutor of Transcarpathian region indicted a deputy of Beregovo district council of the VII convocation of providing assistance to representatives of a foreign country organizations in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine, that is, committing treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In particular, he organized the participation of the so-called "Transcarpathian national football team" in the European championship, which took place in early June 2018 under the auspices of the international football federation of unrecognized territories and national minorities.

Thus, the suspect, with the intent to spread separatist sentiment among the population of Transcarpathian region, attempting to change the boders of Ukraine, selected players – natives of Transcarpathia, who for a long time had been playing for various football clubs in the territory of Hungary.

In addition, the deputy prepared and provided the uniform for the players of this team (with a combined logo composed of the emblem and the flag of Transcarpathian region and the Hungarian national symbols), which unambiguously suggests that the territory of the Transcarpathian region is a part of Hungary.

At present, further investigation and procedural activities in the criminal proceeding are being carried out by investigators of the Security Servcie of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region under the procedural control of the regional prosecutor’s office.

Reference: In accordance with the sanction of Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the suspect faces imprisonment for a term of twelve to fifteen years, with or without the confiscation of property.
