On October 9, the international postal community celebrated the 140th anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). In Uzhgorod, in the office of the Ukrainian State Postal Enterprise "Ukrposhta", there was a special cancellation of the artistic stamped envelope dedicated to this date. The newly created stamped envelope also underlined the importance of current events in Ukraine, and it is entitled "Ukraine is one country".
The special cancellation in Uzhgorod was attended by the Acting Mayor Victor Shchadey, who pointed out that nowadays, even in spite of the rapid development of Internet in Transcarpathia, postage is still irreplaceable.
Reference: The history of post and postage stamps in our region dates back to the middle of the XIX century and includes the period of short-lived independence in the mid XX century, after which the post of Transcarpathian region became a part of the postal system of the USSR, and since 1991 – of the modern Ukraine.
