The police exposed the officials of the forestry enterprise, who provided illegally harvested timber for the “reward” (PHOTOS)

Operatives of the Regional Economic Crime Department of the National Police and the regional Prosecutor’s Office exposed the criminal scheme for the provision of oak logs, which had been organized by officials of a forestry enterprise. One of the suspects was detained while receiving UAH 20,000 of unlawful benefit.

Operatives of the Economy Crime Department in Transcarpathian region found out that three employees of the forestry enterprise were involved in the corruption scheme: senior master of forest, a forester, and the manager of the forestry enterprise. They organized the sale of unaccounted oak logs, which was illegally cut and taken out of the forest.

During the investigative operations, police officers and prosecutors documented extortion of $ 200 and UAH 20,000 of unlawful benefit by a senior master of forest from a local resident for provision of a quality wood. The offender was supposed to give some of the money to the other suspects.

On November 7, operatives of the Economy Crime Department in Transcarpathian region of the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office in Transcarpathian region detained the senior master of forest while receiving of UAH 20,000 of unlawful benefit. He previously had received from that citizen $ 200.

Currently, the offender has been detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine.
A criminal proceeding was opened under Part 3 of the Art. 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or obtaining of undue advantage by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

This criminal offense is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a term of five to ten years with the deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years, with the confiscation of property.
