The police are investigating yesterday’s incident, when a truck hit an elderly woman on Kapushanska street in Uzhgorod, Transcarpathian regional police office reported.
On January 19, around 11.50, the police received a report from a resident of the city of Uzhgorod that at the intersection of Kapushanska and Belinsky streets, a truck had hit an elderly woman. The investigative team arrived at the scene.
As the police found out, the victim was hit by a truck "Volvo" driven by a 36-year-old resident of Volyn region. The driver had delivered the goods to a supermarket in Uzhgorod. While driving backwards, he did not notice the woman and hit her. According to another information, the victim slipped on a slippery sidewalk and fell under the wheel.
An ambulance took the victim to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a broken left shin and extensive torn and degloving wound of the entire leg. The pensioner is being treated in the trauma ward, she is to be operated on.
The police initiated criminal proceeding over this incident under Art.286 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic rules resulting in injuries). Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the accident. The test showed that the truck driver was sober.
