Disabled workers from all over Ukraine were competing in 5 sports in Uzhgorod and showing their fortitude
Yesteday, Friday, September 12, in Uzhgorod, in the sports complex "Yunist", there was the solemn closing and awarding ceremony of the All-Ukrainian Spartakiad for disabled workers.
The sports event was called "Strength of Spirit" and the Transcarpathian round was its second and final phase. The first round was the regional qualifying competitions – in June and July this year in regional centers of Ukraine.
252 amateur athletes from almost all regions of Ukraine – winners of qualifying events – took part in the final round in order to compete in 6 sports: armsport, bombasket, weight lifting, darts, table tennis, chess.
Only teams from Luhansk region, Crimea and Sevastopol did not take part in the sports event. Other regions were represented by teams of between 5 to 10-12 athletes, including even wheelchair users.
Ms. Nadia Kovalenko from Kharkiv district is fascinated with Uzhgorod and says that she does not regret a long way to Transcarpathia, because she saw it as very cozy and beautiful.
Mr. Petro from Sumy region liked the variety of Transcarpathian churches, because he is a believer. He thanks to the organizers, who arranged this celebration of unity. He met many interesting people here from all over Ukraine, learned about life in different regions and became friends with many athletes.
The organizers say: "The Spartakiad is a unique event not only for Ukraine. Such competitions of this level have never been held in any country of the world. The lessons learned can be used in the future for the organization of international sports forum."
