The Parliament has introduced a moratorium on forest felling in the Carpathians

The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading the bill on introduction of the ban on the continuous felling of fir and beech forests on the mountain slopes of the Carpathian region, the MinProm reported.

259 deputies voted for the adoption of the relevant bill No. 6749.

The bill amends Art. 21 and 26 of the Law "On the Nature Reserve Fund", namely, prohibits felling in national natural parks, preserves.

Also, the bill amends the law "On the moratorium on continuous felling on the mountain slopes in fir and beech forests of the Carpathian region" on the extension of the ban on continuous felling of fir and beech forests on steep slopes of the Carpathian region.

Thus, according to the authors of the bill, it will be possible to carry out only selective felling for the improvement of fir and beech forests on steep slopes in the woods of Ivano-Frankivsk, Transcarpathian, Lviv and Chernivtsi regions.
