Local historian Oleksandr Bogdanov has shown the Horyany Rotunda – the oldest temple of Uzhgorod, which is at least nine centuries old – in an unusual form.
The unique church of the circular shape was erected, according to various data, at the beginning of the XI – at the end of the XII centuries, it is a monument of European level of importance.
"Horyany Rotunda of St. Anna with the Gothic church of St. Nicholas in Horyany. Recently, the plaster was removed from it. As far as I understand, the restoration is being conducted by a young local priest. The next phase of the work is to cover the walls with lime, preserving the structure of the stone-brickwork. I could not but to come here at the moment when one of the oldest temples in Transcarpathia is… "naked", – Oleksandr Bogdanov writes and publishes photos. Let’s take a look!
