The oldest resort in Transcarpathia

According to legend, since the XVII century, in the Transcarpathian village of Lumshory (Perechyn district), people have been taking hot water treatment in special vats, where water is heated with wood, the Ukraina turystychna intrigues.

The process of hydrotherapy in Lumshory is as follows:

 – You enter a wooden building, but without a roof. In the middle, there is a pot made of cast iron filled with mineral water. It is heated with wood over an open fire. There are several stones in the vat. You get inside (sometimes 4-5 people can fit into this makeshift jacuzzi), and a Hutsul, putting firewood under the vat, cooks you over low flame. Once you feel your blood starting to boil (in fact the water is heated to no more than + 45 ° C), jump out! A few steps away, there is a cool mountain stream. Summer or winter, the treatment takes place outdoors.

Tourists jokingly say that here they train before hell.

Vats are filled with water from springs (with a high content of hydrogen sulfide) located in the village.

In recent years, these treatments have become one of the highlights of Transcarpathia and became very popular among tourists.

Tourists from all over the country and from abroad come to get "cooked" in the Transcarpathian village.

The village has a long history. The oldest resort in Transcarpathia based on hydrogen sulphide mineral springs has been operating in Lumshory since 1600. Wooden tubs used to be installed there. People would pour cold mineral water into wooden troughs and throw there stones heated on the fire. Then, they would jump into the water.

When a plant was built in neighboring Turyi-Remety, they cast two 250-liter cast iron vats there. They would heat mineral water in those vats and pour it into the troughs.

After World War I both vats were lost. In 1970, Volodymyr Apyari dug up one of them in the woods near a stream, the second one is in the Vienna Museum. The ancient vat, which the healing water is heated in, has preserved in the village to this day.
