The National Union of Theater Workers asks to grant the Transcarpathian Music and Drama Theater the title of “Academic”

On October 3, an extraordinary congress of the National Union of Theater Workers of Ukraine took place in Kyiv.Among other issues, the delegates adopted the appeal to grant the Transcarpathian Music and Drama Theater the title of "Academic".

Transcarpathian Regional Ukrainian Drama Theater this year celebrated its 70th anniversary. The largest theater of Transcarpathia has made a considerable contribution to the development of Ukrainian theater in the westernmost region of Ukraine. It is the promoter of the best achievements of Ukrainian and world drama in Ukrainian language in a multicultural region.

The theater management have already appealed with a request to grant the theater the status of "Academic". It is one of the few theaters in the regional centers of Ukraine, which has not yet received this status.

Also, such support could partly improve the financial situation of the theater, because due to low wages and the distance from theater schools, our theater suffers from a lack of qualified specialists. 

Granting of the "Academic" status would not only become the recognition of the professional level of the oldest theater in Transcarpathia, but also would bring positive changes for the company in difficult times" – it is stated in the appeal of the Congress of the National Union of Theater Workers to the Cabinet.
