She noted that the 5 hryvnias coin "100 years of the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P. Tchaikovsky" is made of silver, and the 2 hryvnias one – of nickel silver (circulation – 3,000 and 20,000 pcs, respectively).
Roman Tchaikovsky, the Head of the Design Development Department of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine, coin artist and sculptor, said that it was the art of the academy graduates and artists that inspired him to create those coins. The obverse of the coin depicts a portrait of Tchaikovsky against the background of a stylized composition – a piano, a treble clef and a stave, and the reverse of the coin depicts the building of the opera studio of the National Music Academy of Ukraine with inscription "100 Years" and a laurel branch under it. "I tried to reproduce vibrant, vivid and concise images which are associated in our minds with renowned masters of musical culture," – Roman Tchaikovsky said.
