A prosecutor of the Uzhgorod local prosecutor’s office proved the guilt of three Uzhgorod residents in the deliberate murder of two Indian citizens, attempted murder of a third foreigner, and robbery. One of the defendants was also convicted of trafficking methamphetamine.
The convicted persons – 24 and 29-year-old residents of Uzhgorod district and a 24-year-old resident of Perechyn district – at about 4 am on April 10, 2016, having previously coordinated their actions, attacked three Indian citizens. At that time, the victims were asleep after a long feast. In the course of the attack, the criminals initially inflicted to the foreigners multiple blows with cobblestones, and then – a number of stabs on the head, neck, torso.
Believing that they had killed all the victims, the attackers took their valuables (tablets, laptop, gold jewelry) and tried to escape, but were promptly found by law enforcement. One attacker was detained almost immediately, the other two were detained by border guards and policemen on the same night while they were attempting to leave Ukraine.
After the criminals had left the apartment, one of the foreigners, in a state of shock, called the homeowner for help. The young man, who was seriously injured, was rescued by doctors.
The investigation also found out that at the time of the crime, the suspects were under the influence of a psychotropic substance – methamphetamine.
Since detention, the suspect have been held in custody without bail.
Taking into account all the evidence provided, the Uzhgorod City and District Court found the defendants guilty of the intentional murder of two Indian citizens by a group of persons on the basis of a prior conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and attempted murder of the third victim (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). In addition, they were found guilty of robbery (Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and one of them, also in the illegal sale of psychotropic substance (Part 1 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
All three offenders were sentenced to life imprisonment. The verdict has not yet entered into force, the Press Service of Prosecutor’s Office in Transcarpathia reported.
