The murder suspect still has a chance to become a deputy

A candidate for deputy of Mukachevo city council from the party "Bloc of Petro Poroshenko "Solidarnist" is suspected of murder that happened in a local Roma camp on the night of October 9.

According to the police, at night, a conflict arose between men, resulting in an 18-year-old boy suffering a gunshot wound – he died in hospital.

As it turned out in the morning, the main suspect, who was detained by the police, was a candidate for deputy of Mukachevo City Council on the list of the party "Bloc Petro Poroshenko "Solidarnist" in the constituency №21 Kalman Olakh.

October 9, the Transcarpathian regional organization of the party "Bloc of Petro Poroshenko "Solidarnist" issued a statement stressing that the candidate for deputy of Mukachevo City Council Kalman Olakh was suggested by the Roma community.

On the same evening, the meeting of the City Electoral Commission chaired by a representative of "Solidarnist" Alla Dymyda was convened. There was one issue on the agenda – cancellation of registration of the candidate Kalman Olakh.

But the TEC failed to adopt such decision – most members abstained from voting. The commission argued that, according to paragraph 1 of Article 47 of the Law of Ukraine "On Local Elections", a candidate’s registration may be revoked on the grounds of personal appeal or the appeal of the party organization, but not later than 19 days before the polling day. As of October 9 this term has expired, since 16 days remain to the polling day.

The head of the secretariat of the regional organization of the party "Bloc of Petro Poroshenko "Solidarnist" Andriy Ryba told the OPORA observer that the party would comment on the situation in Mukachevo later. He noted that the party did not mind cancellation of the candidate’s registration.

So, as of October 10, Kalman Olakh arrested on suspicion of murder remains a candidate for deputy of Mukachevo city council in the constituency №21, which is evidenced by the relevant information on the official website of the CEC.

In accordance with paragraph 4 of Part 1 of Article 47 of the Law, a candidate’s registration may be cancelled on the grounds of a guilty verdict coming into effect.

However, it is unlikely that the court makes a decision on the suspect’s guilt within two weeks that remain to the election – October 25.
